The Most Beautiful Name

Life.

It's full of joys!  It's the oh, so simple things that bring me the most joy. . .

 - A clean house. :)

 - Seeing my husband's truck coming "round the bend" towards home after a long day at work.

 - The crisp orange, red and yellow changing leaves of fall.

 - The smell of apple cider and pumpkin spice as the weather begins to cool.

 - Comfort food made in the warmth of my own kitchen.

 - Gathering around the table with family talking about our joys and disappointments of the day.

 - S'mores!

 - Hugs!

 - Being able to sleep in on a Saturday morning.

 - Laughter!

 - The look of happiness on your child's face as he has successfully accomplished a daunting task.

 -  Music, music and more music!  (I love music!!)

 - Sunshine.

 - Rain.

 - A nice, steaming hot cup of coffee (or two)!

 - And the list goes on . . .

Life.  It's good.

It's also full of disappointments.

People change - some may break your heart, disappoint you, or even confuse you.

It may be family. . .
a parent who has gone to be with Jesus where you can no longer call him/her up on a whim or share any more holiday memories.  It may be a child or brother or sister who is lost and you don't know how to help anymore.

It may be a friend who has moved on and is no longer in your life, and you don't really know how that happened.

It could be someone that you, at one time, looked up to but has now shown you that he/she is 'real' and is not perfect. . . just like you.

Maybe someone said some hurtful things about you....someone that you thought loved you.

Things change - Everything changes over time.
Jobs.
Family.
Friends.
Finances.
Homes.
Life.
Everything changes over time.  Whether good or bad, nothing ever stays the same.

But Jesus....
He is the ONLY constant in this life.  Never changing.  Always the same - yesterday, today and forever!

Your heart may be breaking for some reason - you may be torn and not know what to do in a certain situation. Things may seem hopeless at this time and you may not even know where to begin.

When you don't know what to do, call upon His name.  Ask Him for wisdom, which He promises to give freely.  Keep praying until that answer comes.  Pray without ceasing.  Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)

Jesus . . . The most beautiful Name of all names.

Jesus.  He can turn life's most heartbreaking disappointments of life into pure joy!

Dear Hate,

There has been a video passed around on social media since the recent shootings in Las Vegas by the title of 'Dear Hate' by Maren Morris and Vince Gill.  So very timely.  (Watch it below.)

Dear Hate

The lyrics made me ponder a bit.  From where does this kind of hate come from...the kind of hate that causes one to snap and begin to plot and plan the demise of as many lives as is possible without even a second thought? ... The kind of hate that lies in wait to take the life of a God-appointed leader with the bend of a single finger?  Where does this kind of hate begin to take root?

The line "you whisper down through history and echo through these halls..."  Then the one word itself...'whisper'.....

This.  This is how it starts.

A whisper.

A whisper in one's mind, which turns into a thought, which then, when nurtured, becomes a stronghold.

'Hate' defined is 'an intense or passionate dislike' and/or 'hostility'.

There will be those who carry …

The Watering Hole

Every Wednesday night at church for the last 6 weeks, Todd has been facilitating a class by Andy Stanley called Life Apps. Sadly, we wrapped up this class with our last session on 'encouragement'. (I have LOVED this class, the people and the discussions we've had, and Todd & I have genuinely missed anyone who was not able to make it to every session!!)

In this last session, we learned that, in conversation, there are (6) criticisms to every (1) encouragement. That is a stunning ratio, in my opinion.

I have challenged myself today to reverse that ratio, and I have already failed.

The words 'we must edify & build up' come out of my mouth almost daily and, as a general rule, I try to be a person who encourages. But have I really made a conscious effort to be intentional with my encouragement?

This 'encouragement' session has made me try to focus more on the words that flow from my mouth. This is a good rule of thumb for everyone in every capa…

SOLID AS A ROCK

This man right here... I sure do love him.

He loves all things health-related.
He loves everything nature and outdoors and enjoys long walks every day (weather permitting).
He loves to watch TV - Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, religious programs, and all things health-related. He loves to read, specifically and most importantly - the Bible.  He studies God's word faithfully.
He loves to read anything/all things health-related.
Did I mention he loves all things health-related?

He loves a good joke because he loves to laugh.   When he gets tickled, he almost can’t stop himself. He inevitably ends up with tears in his eyes because he laughs so hard!
Just like my granddad, his dad, he has a laugh like no other.  Their laughs are different and only similar in that they have a very distinctive laugh that compels others to join in!

He loves music.

He can play the guitar and the banjo, and he loves to listen to big band music.

For so long I credited my mother for giving me and my siblings the lo…
